| Uproar in LC over Sheikh | | | Early Times Report Jammu: Uproarious scenes were witnessed in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council this afternoon when the name of former chief minister Sheikh Abdullah figured during a discussion on a private member's resolution. The resolution, moved by JKNPP's Mohammad Rafiq Shah, sought amnesty to persons convicted of minor militancy-related offences. During the discussions on the resolution, Murtaza Ahmed Khan of the Opposition PDP mentioned the name of Sheikh Abdullah which was objected to by NC and Congress members. Altaf Ahmed Wani, Ghulam Qadir Pardesi and M Rashid Qureshi, all ruling NC members, and Ravinder Kumar and Naresh Kumar Gupta of the Congress said the subject matter of the discussion had nothing to do with Abdullah. They said Abdullah was a towering personality not only in the state but in the entire country. |
