| Pak HC refuses to play host to Gani, Lone | | Mohabat main dokha! | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 23: Even as a big delegation comprising separatists, journalists, lawyers and civil society actors had a sumptuous dinner in Pakistan High Commissioner's office on Pakistan day (March 23) at New Delhi, former Hurriyat chairman, Professor Abdul Ghani Bhat and Peoples Conference chairman, Bilal Ghani Lone stayed back in the Valley in protest. Their trusted colleague Moulana Abbas Ansari `ditched them' at the last moment. He left for Delhi Tuesday to enjoy Pakistani hospitality. Professor Abdul Ghani Bhat, till yesterday, was considered a staunch advocate of Pakistan. At times he saw no reason for participation of the people of Jammu Kashmir in talks concerning their future. "Islamabad is there to represent us. We should trust Pakistan", he would say. A local news agency yesterday said Professor, Bilal and Ansari would not attend the dinner hosted by Pakistan high Commissioner on March 23 in protest against their non-inclusion in the list of leaders invited to Islamabad. However, sources close to them said the High Commissioner had not invited them. This is the first time when the High Commissioner has ignored members of the Hurriyat executive. Abbas Ansari left for New Delhi Tuesday morning. It could not be ascertained whether he consulted the professor and Bilal before leaving for New Delhi or not. Pakistan, it may be mentioned, has invited Geelani, Mirwaiz, Yasin Malik besides Bar President Mian Abdul Qayoom and Aasia Andrabi to Pakistan to `chalk out a strategy for future course of action.' Surprisingly no invitation was extended to Professor Bhat, Bilal and Ababs Ansari. By ignoring them Islamabad has sent a clear message to quarters that matter in contemporary Kashmir. Stage now seems all set for a bigger role for Geelani. Perceived as a major shift in Islamabad's Kashmir policy, the move may have far reaching consequences on over all political and security situation of the state. The shift in Pakistan's police became evident when Geelani was accepted as chairman of his faction of the separatist conglomerate last month. The octogenarian leader received an invitation from Pakistan Foreign Secretary in his capacity as chairman of Hurriyat (G). The foreign secretary, sources close to Geelani assured full support to Geelani and his Hurriyat faction. Geelani has been an all time darling of `Kashmir desk' in Islamabad was shown the exit when former President General Musharraf came out with his four point formula. Geelani vehemently opposed the formula and accused Musharraf of sell out. The`shift' in Islamabad's Kashmir policy is being perceived as a major development by Kashmir watchers. "It may have far reaching consequences on over all political and security scenario of the state. It means Pakistan is interested in a hard posture on Kashmir and things will start moving accordingly on the ground", a senior journalist opined. The shift has also been perceived as a severe setback to professor Ghani who behaved as more Pakistani than the Pakistanis during the past twenty years. This is what the commoner in Kashmir calls Mohabat main dokha. |
