| Pak: No request from US on stopping terrorist groups | | |
Islamabad, Oct 13 Pakistan today said it has not received any request from the United States to use its influence on militant groups to stop attacks in India and insisted that it did not support or encourage violence.
Reacting to US Under Secretary of State Nicholas Burns' statement that Washington has told Islamabad to use its influence on the terrorist groups to curb and stop attacks in India, Pakistan Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said Islamabad has not received any such request from Unites States.
Claiming the violence in Jammu and Kashmir was "indigenous due to human rights violations by the Indian forces", Aslam told reporters here that if Burns has made such comments, he should talk to India on this issue.
Asked what would be Pakistan's response if US were to make such a request, she said Pakistan did not support or encourage violence.
"We supported Kashmir's struggle but condemned terrorism whether it was done by an individual or state or anywhere in the world," she said.
Burns said in Washington yesterday that "We obviously wish to see no more terrorism emanating from Kashmiri separatist groups. We have told the Pakistani government that we would hope that the Pakistani government uses influence with these terrorist groups to curb and stop altogether any attacks on India." |
