3/25/2010 12:49:03 AM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Mar 24 : Scotching rumours that an earthquake can anytime rock Jammu and Kashmir, the state Disaster Management Authority today asked people not to pay heed to such hearsay.

"Though Kashmir falls in Seismic Zone IV and V, tremors cannot be predicted, so people should not pay heed to such rumours that an earthquake may occur again," spokesman of the Disaster Management Authority Aamir Ali said.

While Zone V expects the highest level of seismicity, Zone IV is associated with a lower level of seismicity. His comments came in wake of a low intensity tremor in Anantnag district in south Kashmir yesterday.

"We should take precautionary measures like constructing earthquake resistant buildings and retro-fitting the existing ones," he said.
