| Principal Carmel School justifies fee hike | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Mar 24: Principal of Carmel School Sister Maria Jacinta has justified institute's stand on excess fee charged from the students. Addressing media persons here today, Sister Jacinta alleged that during the teacher- parents meet held in the school, it was decided that hike of only 10 % of fee, which is authorized, would be charged by them.
She informed that the excess fee, so charged, has been returned to the parents after the protest of the parents yesterday.
However, the Principal reiterated that the fees now can be paid in monthly installments as per the convenience of the parents. She also said like other schools, who are charging heavy amounts in the name of development; our school has avoided such practice.
Replying to another question, that books and uniforms are still sold in spite of authorities' orders against this, Sister Jacinta said she is not aware of any such orders of the education authorities. The books are given to students to maintain the standard of school. Moreover, the school is not selling the books; it is the shopkeeper who sells them, she added. We follow all instructions of School Education authorities in letter and spirit, Principal maintained It is pertinent to mention here that uproarious scenes were witnessed at Carmel School yesterday as the parents of students staged a protest demonstration alleging unprecedented hike in fees, rates of books and uniform by the school authorities. The agitating parents said that the increase in fees and prices of books and uniform are totally against the orders issued by the Directorate of School Education, Jammu. Sensing trouble, the School authorities had also called the police to handle the situation. |
