| YMP observes World TB Day | | | Early Times Report
Jammu , Mar 24: Youth Movement For Peace (YMP) observed World TB Day by organizing a Symposium competition on Tuberculosis in Paramedical Institute, Baba Budhan Shah Educational Trust, Barjala Bun.
Students, who participated in the competition spoke on different topics related to TB like Interaction of Tuberculosis with HIV, Prevention and control of TB, Role of Health Education and community participation.
Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla, was the Chief Guest, State President, Samajwadi Party Sheikh Abdul Rehman presided over the function, State President, GUF Anwar Chowdhary was the Guest of Honour.
Dr Mahesh Sharma was enacted as judge for the symposium competition.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman, YMP Vikas Sharma said, "There are 10,268 registered patients of TB in the state. Out of which 6,178 are in Jammu and rest of them in Kashmir region adding " The news is particularly bad for the Jammu district, which is already number one, in the terms of the Tuberculosis cases. There are 2,059 registered TB patients in the district and with 365 TB patients coming from HIV positive category, the matter becomes serious."
He said, "Supervised treatment helps to ensure that an infected person completes the course of medicine to cure TB and prevent its further spread. Treatment must be continued regularly and uninterrupted for six to eight months. Health Awareness Programs should also be organized from time to time in rural areas as most of the patients belonged to the same." |
