| Workshop on 'Classical Dance' held in JU | | | Early Times Report Jammu , March 25 The School for Visual and Performing Arts, Design & Architecture (SVAPADA), in association with Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu (JU) conducted a day long workshop on 'Classical Dance' to help students understand and appreciate the dance form. The workshop was led by Artistic Director Padam Bhushan Dr Sonal Mansingh. She introduced dance form to the students and brief about its evolution. The participants learnt some of the basic movements, hand gesture, poses and facial expressions of the dance style. Dr Mansingh explained the participants that Indian Classical Dance forms gyrate around the nine "rasas" or emotions that included "Hasya" (happiness), "Krodha" (anger), "Bhibasta" (disgust), "Bhaya" (fear), "Shoka" (sorrow), "Viram" (courage), "Karuna" (compassion), "Adbhuta" (wonder) and "Shanta" (serenity). She also stressed that how dance help a person to develop self-confidence. Quoting her own example how she was able to recover from a fatal accident which happened way back in 1974 at Germany. The X-rays showed that her 12th vertebra was injured and she lost all reflexes in toes, knees, ankles and elbows. But, it was his earlier training in dancing which gave her self-confidence and she was able to recover back to dancing in year and a half.
