| Winning start by Commerce in TT, Carrom | | Inter-Department Sports Meet of JU | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Mar 26: Department of Commerce today made a winning start in men's category sailing into the next round of both Table Tennis and Carrom events in the ongoing Inter-Department Sports Meet of University of Jammu at Gymnasium Hall, here.
In Carrom, Commerce trounced The Business School in straight 2-0 games. In the first singles, Kamal beat Haarit while Ashwani overpowered Abhishek to help his side qualify for the next round. However, in table tennis, Commerce Department got walkover Department of Physics and Electronics.
In other two scheduled table tennis matches, Political Science got walkover Department of English while Physical Education awarded walkover against Department of Dogri.
The Law School also reached the next round making it a 2-1 win over Department of Zoology. The Results: Singles: Abhik lost to Rohit 6-11, 8-11; Abhinav bt Kailash 11-13, 11-2, 11-5. Doubles: Karan and Abhinav bt Rohit and Kailash 11-7, 9-11, 11-9.
CARROM: In men's carrom competitions, Commerce Department and Department of Zoology won their respective matches. While Commerce beat Business School 2-0 (Kamal bt Haarit and Ashwani bt Abhishek), Zoology trounced Department of Education 2-0 (Kailash bt Sanjeev Jamwal and Rohit bt Vishal Sharma).
Other two scheduled matches ended in walkovers. Department of Political Sciences got walkover Department of Economics while CHTM awarded walkover Department of Sociology.
Today's matches were officiated by Ravish Vaid, Vikrant Singh and Sunaina.
Earlier, the competitions were formally declared open by the Director Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau.
He was introduced with the participants taking part in indoor events of table tennis and carrom representing different departments. Prominent among others present were Ramesh Magotra, Dr Brij Baloria and Kuldeep Magotra.
