Jammu's theatrical charisma ignored, lament best performers

Early times report
Jammu, Mar 26: The recent conclusion of the national festival of plays sponsored by North Zone Cultural Centre and collaborated by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art Culture and Languages has left many of the sour memories that may take some ages together to weather off.
Many big names in the field of art crowned with national patronage seemed succumbing to the Jammu artists' charisma that not only have performed miles ahead of them in their homeland but have proved that their sense of talent in field of drama is more chiseled and accomplished than what they had been offered by NZCC.
Besides the unfortunate part of the Festival that took along a taboo of being biased also is about a lament by the artists here that none of the play produced, directed and performed in Jammu was part of the Festival that could have added glamour and a strong competition to the other performers who belonged to Delhi or else where.
"Does the NZCC not find any capability of a potential at par with the drama produced in Jammu to be given a podium alongwith the presentations that were from outside so that a line of distinction, if any, could have been gauged apparent," said Shashi Bhushan, a spirited young theater director adding that any play of the best category chosen by the Academy itself could have been given a chance for a competition.
In addition a general lament that has come from various quarters included that there is a pick and choose policy on this account only that leaves the best productions and performers sidelined to appease the blue eyed.
" I fail to understand what parameters does the production of a Delhi group finds more appeal to the NZCC heads instead of the one presented by a local Jammu group that sweeps clean all the top awards in a drama competition held among its dozen contemporaries here," says Vikram, the Best Director and Best Actor awardee since past two consecutive years adding that if the Festival was slated for Jammu, it should have at least two productions of such categories too included into it to make it a relevant Festival.
Himanshu Darshan, two times best actor awardee of the state Academy and triple awards earner for one production held recently in drama festival says, "It is irony with the theatricals, be it at NZCC or national level even that best performers are sidelined to accommodate the chosen ones only whose performers automatically reflect about their "below average" caliber on the proscenium with no body to take serious cognizance.
Those having a superiority of innovation and presentation of the art are thus vanishing into oblivion due to this system".
It is pertinent to mention here that since Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages is holding an award ceremony to honour the best performers and productions of the last two years tomorrow on the eve of World Theatre Day, the picture would reflect the mirror image of the truth as claimed by the artists and various directors of Jammu for being treated indifferently.
