| Balwant: Natrang acquires International status | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 26: One the eve of World Theatre Day, Natrang Director Balwant Thakur presented a lecture on the future of theatre at Natrang studio theatre which was attended by the theatre enthusiasts and artists. He said that this day is celebrated world over on this day since the 1961. Natrang was the first theatre group of the state which started the tradition of celebrating this auspicious day in the year 1985 and is celebrating every year The relevance of celebrating this day with big fanfare he necessitated for the reason that Jammu theatre in general and Natrang in particular has acquired Internat-ional status sheer by its own strength, dedication and commitment. Despite hardships, lacks of support and official apathy, theatre in Jammu has made its existence and presence felt due to the selfless efforts of few individuals. Jammu theatre with the passage of time is getting global and the most sought after destination of intellectuals and art lovers for its creativity innovation and originality. Terming theatre as one of the most effective medium of communication he said that its amazing capacity has the immense power to change the world. Today the world in general and our country in particular is confronting with multiple problems. The media is deviating from its basic responsibility in the race of TRPs. In such a situation, theatre has acquired a major role of transforming the minds. The days are gone when people use to watch theatre for their just for entertainment but now theatre is being used in a big way for human development. In respect of Jammu & Kashmir, Thakur said that there are positive developments. New audiences keenly wait for productions and there is a sea change in the perception of people about theatre but only the state is required to demonstrate generosity towards theatre and he appealed the government to create theatre spaces in all the districts.
