| 4124 posts of doctors being created: Chib | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 26: Minister for Medical Education, R.S. Chib today said that the Government will upgrade the medicare facilities in two Medical Colleges Jammu and Srinagar and Rs 120 crore will be spent on various facilities under PMSSY. As a result, 15 Super Speciality are being added in these two premier institutions, he added. The Minister was replying to the Demands of Grants for the Department of Medical Education in the Legislative Assembly. To tackle growing rush of patients in tertiary centres, the Government will add another 1000 beds in Government Medical Coll-ege, Jammu and Srina-gar. The Minister said adding that efforts are also afoot to increase MBBS/BDS and PG seats in these colleges. The Minister said 90 per cent work on 220-bedded Super Speciality Hospital block, Jammu has been completed and its targeted date of completion is ending June, 2010. Similarly, the upgradation of 4-storeyed Institute of Traumatology and allied super specialities at Srinagar will be completed by the end of December 2010, said Prof. Chib. To improve maternity care facilities in Lala Ded Hosp-ital, Srinagar, 200-bedded ward block is under construction at a cost of Rs 15.87 crore. The Govern-ment has formulated a proposal of Rs 261.97 crore for construction of two 400-bedded Maternity Hospitals at Jammu and Srinagar and the proposal stands submitted to the Central Govern-ment for funding, the Minister maintained. Referring to the shortage of staff, the Minister said that the Gover-nment has formulated a comprehensive proposal for creation of 4124 posts of various categories for Government Medical Colleges and Super Speci-ality Hospitals at Srinagar and Jammu. The proposal stands cleared by the Planning and Finance Departments, he added. Giving details about the performance during the year 2009-10 (ending January), the Minister said that 22.61 lakh patients were treated in OPD and 3 lakh in Indoor Patient Department (IPD), besides 1.33 lakh major and minor surgeries were conducted during the same period, he added.
