| Lashkar to cops: Quit by Apr 20 or be killed | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 26: The pan-Islamic Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit has set April 20 next as deadline for cops in Doda district to quit or get ready to be killed by its cadres. The threat, issued by Let through handwritten letters pasted on walls in Doda district, has come at a time when police are emerging as a strong anti-insurgency force. Overnight, several letters were found pasted on walls in Doda district, threatening local cops: Quit your jobs by the 20th or get killed. As no month was mentioned, 20th was being presumed as April 20 because 20th day of this month, ie March, had already passed. The warning was issued in the name of Lashkar's Doda district commander Gul Mohammad. The letters also flaunted a helpline number that can be called for clarification. When The Early Times called the number, it was switched off. The police shrugged off the threat not willing to let morale flag when it was high, particularly after successful anti-militancy operations across the state recently. Director General of Police (DGP) Kuldeep Khuda said, "Though they have been threatening for a long time, the state police have continued to remain in the forefront of anti-militancy operations. These threats don't mean anything."The Lashkar suffered heavy losses in the past few months. In this year alone, eight top LeT commanders were killed by security forces in Doda and Kishtwar districts. The police chief reckoned this was the reason behind the threat. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to had lauded the role of the state police in restoring normalcy to the state.''
