| Two militants, one soldier killed in encounter in Pulwama | | |
Srinagar, Oct 13: A Pakistani militant and his local associate were killed in a gunbattle in Pulwama district late last night while a soldier lost life in the operation, officials said today.
The militants belonging to Harkat-ul-Mujahiddin, who were hiding in the house of a lawyer Abdul Hai in Alyapora village, 55 km from here, were killed last night in a firefight, they said.
They were identified as Shakeel Bhai, a Pakistani national, and his local associate Azad Ahmad, they said adding a soldier was killed in the operation.
The house of the lawyer was completely damaged in the gunbattle which lasted for several hours.
Earlier, police and CRPF evacuated over 2000 persons, including 1500 students of a higher secondary school, before the start of the encounter.
Meanwhile, an encounter broke out between militants and security forces at Baktoor forest in Gurez sector of Baramulla district this morning.
The encounter was still on and further details are awaited, the sources said adding it was not immediately known whether the militants were attempting to infiltrate into the valley or exfiltrate to other side when they were confronted by the troops.
