Women athletes being encouraged in JKP: DGP
Inter-Zone Sports Meet gets underway

JAMMU, Mar 27: Jammu and Kashmir Police aim at encouraging the talented women athletes in the force by way of extending them a platform to perform and excel at the state and national level in various disciplines.
This was stated by the Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Kuldeep Khoda on the inaugural of Inter-Zone Sports Meet of the Police at Police Parade and Advance Training Ground (Gulshan Ground), here today. Speaking to the participating contingents from different zones of the Police as also other distinguished gathering invited to witness the colourful opening function, he said, "Encouraged by the improved results at the national level in individual games of boxing and weightlifting in the recent past, we have decided to identify the talented women athletes within the force and then groom them into medal winners."
"To make a beginning in this regard, the women teams in almost all the disciplines have been introduced in this year's inter-zone competitions. Encouraging women in sports would go a long way in promoting sports in the society as a whole," he maintained.
He also boosted other medal winners' sportsper-sons at the national and international level from the Police through his encouraging words.
Earlier, the Inspector General of Armed Police and organizing secretary of the meet, Dilbag Singh welcomed the chief guest, DGP and other distinguished gathering on the inaugural of the six-day long competitions.
He also presented a brief note of the activities to be held in the coming six days.
To justifying the inaugural speech of the DGP and also to show case the talent among the females in the force, two exhibition matches took place in tug of war and kabaddi events amidst cheers from the healthy crowd turned up the venue.
While in kabaddi, young and energetic training zone women trounced their counterparts from Armed zone rather easily, the tug-of-war match was won by experienced Armed zone.
Earlier, the chief guest took salute of participating contingents from six zones of the J&K Police.
Meanwhile, the actual competition in both team and individual events shall start tomorrow at different venues, here. The team events of handball and hockey shall take place at DPL and University of Jammu grounds while basketball, football, volleyball, kabaddi and tug of war shall be conducted at Police Parade and Advance Training Ground here.
