| Rs. 1.62 cr being spent to bring Govt Arts Emporium on modern lines: Romesh | | | Srinagar, October 13 – Minister of State for Industries Commerce, PHE and Irrigation Dr. Romesh Chander Sharma today visited Government Arts Emporium and observed various marvelous pieces of Kashmiri Handicrafts and extolled the real skill of the craftsmen. Chairman Handicrafts Development Corporation Haji Abdul Rashid was accompanying him. Haji Abdul Rashid informed the Minister to bring the Government Arts Emporium on the modern lines an amount of Rs 5 crore have already been spent till date while Rs 1.62 crore would be spent on the 2nd phase of the emporium to bring it on the same line. 50 per cent of the amount would be born by Union Minister of Textiles and 50 per cent by the state government. The Minister was further informed that during the first 6 months of the current financial year the Emporium has earned income of Rs 3 crore from sales. During the visit the Minister urged for steps to ensure the visit of every tourist through Arts Emporium which will boost the sale of handicrafts products and will prove useful for the Kashmiri artisans.
