| Arrangements for Amarnath Yatra begin amid terror threats | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Mar 28: With intelligence inputs suggesting spurt in militant activities in coming months, the State administration have started making arrangements for the upcoming two-month-long pilgrimage to the 3,880 metre-high cave shrine of Amarnath in South Kashmir. Lakhs of devotees from across the country are expected to join the annual pilgrimage, scheduled to commence in June, notwithstanding the threat posed by militants. Governor N N Vohra, who is also the Chairman of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), discussed various matters with the Divisional Commissio-ner Kashmir and Inspector General of Police Kashmir with a view to ensuring timely arrangements for this year pilgrimage at a meeting held at Raj Bhavan, here today. The Governor, while reviewing identified aspects of the ensuing Yatra stressed the need for greater synergy between the Civil Administration, Police, Security Forces, Shrine Board authorities and each of the various concerned State Government Departments, service providers and all the stakeholders for ensuring that the required arrangements are in place well in time. He stressed the need of initiating advance action at the right earnest, in respect of all important matters. Referring to the already drawn up schedule of sector-wise coordination meetings, the Governor emphasized that the interactions in these meetings should be followed by the required action on ground for securing effective implementation of the various decisions taken in these meetings. The meeting discussed in detail the arrangements which are required to be made at the Base Camps of Baltal and Nunwan, as also at various places on both the Yatra routes. The Principal Secretary to the Governor and Chief Executive Officer of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, Raj Kumar Goyal, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Naseem Lankar and Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, Farooq Ahmad, participated in the meeting.
