3/28/2010 11:14:15 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Mar 28: In the backdrop of simmering resentment against the "faulty" and "defective" voters lists for upcoming elections to local bodies in the State, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today decided to take up the matter with Chief Electoral Officer, B R Sharma. In a meeting of senior leaders, state office bearers, MLAS, district and Morcha presidents, chaired by BJP state president, Shamsher Singh Manhas, alongwith Leader of Legislature Party, Chaman Lal Gupta, at party headquarters here, the members reviewed the process of recent announcement made regarding local bodies elections. It was general complaint by those attending the meeting that voter lists are "defective" with many names missing, incorrect and votes of even a family shifted to other booths. They also complained of inadequate time granted for taking the process of deletion, addition and corrections. Manhas said that the party MLAs has already taken up matter in the State Legislative Assembly and would take up the same with Chief Electoral Officer. He appealed all members of the party to get prepared for forthcoming elections. He also discussed various problems faced by the public besides taking stock of the party's ongoing signature campaign against price rise.
He said, "We should take the local issues door to door and should expose the way of working of different parties and ensure that we get maximum seats in corporation and other local bodies throughout the Jammu region." It was also informed by district presidents that they have received more than 2 lakh signatures on price-hike. Chaman Lal Gupta said, "We have won 11 seats in assembly for the first time and likewise we have to win maximum seats in Corporation and other local bodies in order to solve the local problems because people of Jammu have trusted us we have to justify the confidence imposed upon us by registering victory in maximum seats."
