| Javed Mustafa Mir, Aggressive but man of principles | | | Sandeep Bhat Early Times Report He is a maverick, the one of kind and discreet. He prefers isolation and is seen talking rarely. He is often in news for accidental fire from his licensed weapon his people have faith in him. Securing 16278 votes, Javed his won seat second time for the Peoples Democratic Party. He was a Minister of State, almost for full term in the coalition government. 2002 elections Javid Mustafa Mir of Peoples Democratic Party had won from this constituency in 2002 election, defeating his nearest National Conference rival Ali Mohammad Dar by a margin of 8,047 votes. While Mir polled 15,923 votes, Dar had received 7,876. The total number of votes polled was 27,439 and the poll percentage was recorded at 52.44. Javed Mustafa Mir had an detailed interactions with ET correspondent in Early Times office. Some of the excerpts. Javed Mustafa Mir belonging into a political family of Kashmir and son of Ex.MLA Mir Mustafa who was assassinated in Mach 1990, the first political victim of militancy. Inspite of threat from the militants Javed did not migrated from his native village Lasjan and remained at his own place. It was a destiny that he came into politics. The people of the area wanted him to contest from Chadoora and firstly he opted to contest as an independent but going through the people democratic party vision and programme he opted to go with the PDP and got mandate in 2002 elections from Chadoora. Javed is a man of principles, a visionary and a statesman. Before joining politics in 2002, he was associated with the family business from 1990 to 2002. During this period he remained in touch with the people and grass level root and did some social works in the area also. People always remain the driving force for Javed who finally shifted from business to politics. He also remained minister of state for power in 2002 and did commendable job including metering, revenue generation from Rs 100 to 400 crores and installed to 200 transformers during the period. About his constituency he said that Chadoora is consisting of 83 villages, which include Lasjan, Nowgam etc covering the population of more than 75 thousand souls. His constituency one of the big constituency in Kashmir valley. He had done several developmental projects in his constituency which include Marvel project (lift irrigation scheme) the biggest in Kashmir, power project (grid) Nowbug, and other lift projects from Jhelum river include Jhelum-Satsukalan and Bugam-Kaisermulla, receiving station, Khanda-Lasjan, water supply schemes etc. Many schools have been upgraded in his constituency and the hospital in his constituency has all the facilities. The hospital you can say is a model hospital and the people are thronging everyday to OPD to get cured. On PDP-congress previous coalition government, he said under the leadership of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed the state see a change in development, peace and progress. People had a sense of security when we were in power. Our government removed Armed Special Forces power act and other draconian laws from the state but the present dispensation is not delivering and people are coming to streets again to get justice. The youth of the state is a frustrated lot and you see the stone pelting incidents in Srinagar and other areas increasing. The sher-e-kashmir empl-oyment scheme of this government is mere an eyewash as it has failed to comeup with the aspiration and the sentiments of the people. Omar Abdullah who is a young chief minister has promised to give justice to the people but so far he has failed. We want the resolution of the Kashmir problem with the aspiration of the people and the separatists should be invited for the unconditional talks. Kashmiri Pandits which have remained neck to neck with their Muslim brethren is a part and parcel of Kashmir and government should make every thing possible to make their honourable and dignified return to the vale of Kashmir. My message to the people is to remain vigilant against those forces who want to create trouble amongst us so that we can defeat their nefarious designs. Electoral Background Chadoora Assembly seat was represented by Ghulam Mohammad Mir of National Conference in 1957 while as in 1962, Ghulam Nabi Wani, an independent candidate, was declared elected.
