| Bid to smuggle liquor from Lakhanpur foiled | | | Early Times Report KATHUA, Mar 29: Foiling a bid to smuggle liquor, sleuths of excise department today seized over 400 cases of branded liquor from a truck at Lakhanpur. This was a major achievement of his department, excise deputy commissioner, Lakhanpur, B S Saraf said. He said a truck (HR38F/5837) was stopped by the excise department sleuths at Lakhanpur. During its checking, 402 cases of branded liquor were found hidden under the banana cases, he added. The truck was being driven by Nirbhay Singh of Ambala, Haryana. Saraf said the truck and the illegal liquor consignment were immediately seized. A case in this connection stands registered under section 48A of the Excise Act. The deputy commissioner warned the smugglers to desist from bringing goods into the state without paying tax. |
