| 3 months on, Ayurvedic doctors awaiting adjustment | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 29: Contrary to the tall claims of work culture and providing efficient administration, 53 Ayurvedic doctors, who were appointed almost three months ago, have been waiting for a call to be posted despite of the fact that they were willing to serve the people anywhere in the state. Yet, the concerned authorities are citing the administrative hassles for such unprecedented delay in their postings. Some of these doctors seeking anonymity told Early Times that the state government had referred posts to Public Service Commission (PSC) on need basis. Subsequently, 53 doctors were selected and appointed about three months ago but till date they have nothing to do as no work has been assigned to them. They alleged that government is not serious about promotion of Ayurvedic system in the state. We come to the Director's office just to mark the attendance that too without salaries. The aggrieved Ayurvedic doctors further added that to justify the dismal picture of health sector in the state, the state government always cite deficiency of doctors as one of the reasons; it is not understandable that what is stopping them from posting us to serve the people of the state. The group of doctors further questioned that is it not the wastage of public money to give salaries to the doctors without work. J&K is one of the states with least doctor-patient ratio in India even than the appointment of doctors is coupled with bureaucratic hurdles. "Where goes the claim of Health Minister of 'Professional Audit' of concerned officers of the department", maintained the doctors. The doctors also demanded that the post of Deputy Director should be filled up on permanent basis and not on temporary basis. Director Indian Systems of Medicine (ISM), Dr Kabir stated that we are in dire need of the services of these doctors; we have sent the proposal to government for their posting in Ayurvedic dispensaries across the state. They could be posted only after the proposal is Okayed. As far as issue of their salaries of three months is concerned, same would be released after their posting. About the commissioning of the building for the Ayurvedic Hospital that was constructed almost two years ago, the Director refused to comment. It is pertinent to mention that the Indian System of Medicine (ISM) of which Ayurveda is an important constituent provides better alternative to the masses as these are less costly and without side effects. There are more than 100 dispensaries in the state, majority of them being in the Jammu region.
