On the floor of House, CM plays games on his cell phone:Beig
3/29/2010 11:55:07 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Mar 29: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Monday leveled serious allegations ranging from undermining the authority of the legislative assembly to discriminating against areas represented by PDP against the Chief Minister.
A visibly perturbed former Finance Minister, Muzaffar Hussain Beig, briefed the media immediately after PDP MLAs walked out in protest over withdrawal of security of a PDP leader. "There is no fun participating in the proceedings of a house where the leader plays games on his cell phone instead of showing interest in the deliberations. The PDP, therefore, has decided to abstain from rest of the budget session", he said.
"It is highly unfortunate that the Chief Minister of a sensitive state like Jammu and Kashmir has been taking the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly so casually", he said.
Beig said the Chief Minister had been undermining the authority of the legislature. "He shows utter disregard to the elected representatives of the people", he said.
Expressing concern over what he called vindictive attitude of the ruling National Conference, he said the PDP would not attend rest of the budget session in protest. "For the past few days the PDP members have been expressing serious concern over withdrawal of security of a PDP leader from Pulwama but the Chief Minister has been reacting very casually. He has endangered the life of the leader", he said.
"This is an act of vengeance and speaks volumes about Chief Minister's arrogance", he said. Beig also accused the government of discriminating against particular areas for political reasons. "Some areas are ignored as far as developmental projects and release of funds is concerned. Not to speak of releasing additionalties for the development of the constituencies represented by opposition especially by the PDP, the Chief Minister even threatened to withhold funds to such areas. This is autocracy at its worst", he remarked.
