| CM's oft-told tale is nothing but illusion | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 29: The oft-told tale of chief minister Omar Abdullah that his government does not discriminate against Jammu and Ladakh regions is nothing but an illusion. This is what the statistics of home department reveals. It shows how the government discriminated against Jammu and Ladakh regions while making recruitment in police department. The government has made a recruitment of 9,553 cops in the last two years. Of them, 5,171 were recruited from Kashmir, while only 4,114 youth donned police uniform in Jammu region. From Ladakh region, only 268 youth were recruited in police. Astonishingly, the maximum number of cops recruited by the Omar-led coalition government in 2009 came from Jammu district but Kashmir region scored over Jammu region in terms of total number of appointments of cops. The highest number of 878 constables were recruited from Jammu followed by Anantnag and Srinagar districts where 688 and 676 constables were recruited respectively. Minimum number of 183 constables were recruited from Shopian in Kashmir region, while 130 and 135 constables were recruited from Kishtwar Ramban districts of Jammu region.
