| Custodian tenants seek implementation of Wadhwa Committee report | | |
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 30: Criticizing the Custodian Department for increasing the rent and demanding premium from the tenants, the Evacuees Property Tenants Welfare Society (EPTWS) sought the implementation of the recommendations of GD Wadhwa Committee during a protest demonstration held here today. The Patron of EPTWS, Shanti Devi stated that the recent action of the department demanding premium and enhancement of rent from the poor tenants for making repairs of centuries' old dilapidated houses for which they have been paying rent to the custodian department from last many decades is unjustified. It is just highhandedness nothing else. She urged all the legislators and ministers to help the poor tenants to grant them proprietary rights Addressing the protesters, chairman of the society, Krishnan Lal Gupta said that the recommendations of the GD Wadhwa Committee were submitted to the government, but nothing has been done so far to provide them relief without any premium till proprietary rights are not conferred, and no permission required for repairing or maintaining the properties. President of the society, Banarsi Dass Angral said that there are 1950 custodian houses 342 Shops, 46 flats, 12 Garages and 12 lakh kanals of agricultural and other lands under control of the custodian department. The department is collecting thousands of rupees as rent and spending nothing for their maintenance, he alleged.
