| Contractors demand release of pending payments | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 30: Demanding release of pending payments, J&K Contractors Coordination Committee (JKCCC) has warned the state government that if contractors' money is not disbursed by tomorrow, they shall be forced to stop all the works. In a meeting of the Committee here today, the members JKCCC criticized the government for its failure on all fronts particularly in the Public Works Depa-rtment (PWD). They demanded resignation of Minister for R&B GM Saroori and Minister for Finance AR Rather alleging that both of them have failed to clear the work done liabilities of the contractors of the state to the tune of about Rs 300 crore. Addressing the meeting, General Secretary JKCCC Balwinder Singh alleged that few contractors managed to get some payments but their cheques were being refused by the treasury officers on the plea that cash is insufficient adding that the fact the treasuries are releasing payments to the tune of crores of rupees against the self cheques of all the Executive Engineers be-sides Drawing & Disb-ursing Officers. JKCCC urged upon the Chief Minister to intervene in the matter and direct the concerned authorities to release the work done liabilities to save some of the petty contractors from starvation.
