SOS children celebrate World Water Day

JAMMU, Mar 30: To mark the World Water Day, SOS Children's Villages of India and Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt Ltd today announced the dedication of Rain Water Harvesting project at SOS Children's Village, Jammu.
The rain water harvesting initiative has created annual ground water recharge potential of 22,6000 cubic meters of water at average rainfall. The project is expected to ensure sustainable water resources for the local community in the area.
The project was dedicated in the presence of the chief guest HK Sharma, Director Food & Supplies, guest of honour SD Digra Sr. Deputy Director General, Geological Survey of India (Retd), Environment Activist, children of Children's Village at Jammu, officials from Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd, Village Director, mothers and co-workers of SOS Children's Village and others.
The nationwide partnership between SOS Children's Villages of India, The Coca-Cola Foundation and Coca-Cola India entails the construction of RWH projects at up to 40 SOS-India locations spread across the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Village Director, SOS Children's Village, Jammu, Sanjeev Bhatt said that it is indeed a commendable effort on part of the SOS Children's Villages of India and Coca-Cola to join hands to work in the area of water conservation.
In his address, Rakesh Jinsi, Secretary General, SOS Children's Villages of India said, "I am pleased to announce the completion of the rain water harvesting work at our Children's Village, Jammu.
The project, by recharging the ground water, would not only help in environmental re-building but also ensure better availability of water in the long term.
According to S Giri Sunder, Director - Area Operations, Jammu, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd, "Water conservation and environment management today requires a participative and collaborative approach.
Each stakeholder in the society must contribute to the best of his ability for sustainability of the Earth's resources."
