| TBS, JU organizes session on presentation skills | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 30: "How We Say things matters as much as What We Say," this was quoted by Prof Poonam Puri from Manchester Metropolitan University at an interaction arranged by The Business School (TBS), Jammu University (JU). The session focused on presentation skills and was attended by the faculty, research scholars and students of The Business School. An expert in Human Resource Management and Organizational Behavior, Prof Puri has a career spanning over 18 years with experience from both industry and academia. Beginning the session, Prof Puri discussed the relevance of presentation skills and how it cannot be overlooked in any profession. She talked in details about how a presentation can be made more effective and interesting. Prof Puri said that it is important to understand, create enthusiasm and build a rapport with the audience. Further she added that setting the theme of the presentation, for example in the form of a journey, is important so as to make the audience relate to it. The content, design and delivery of the presentation are of immense significance. One could add stories, jokes, anecdotes and visuals to the presentation to make it even more effective. She also talked about how to handle tough situations when encountered during the presentation and prevent problems by preparing for them and creating a contingency plan. Moreover, aspects like appearance/dress, body language, voice, movement have a great impact on the audience and should not be ignored. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Ashok Aima, Dean, Faculty of management studies, said that in order to leave a favorable first impression, it is imperative to have effective presentation skills. Addressing the gathering, Prof Neelu Rohmetra, Director, The Business School mentioned that such sessions are instrumental in building research and academic collaboration with the universities of international repute for mutual benefit. It is pertinent to mention here that Prof Poonam Puri is visiting The Business School at JU, to explore possibilities of collaboration in Management Education between Manchester Metropolitan University, UK and University of Jammu.
