| Dogri music and dance programme concludes | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Mar 30: The two day Composite Music and Dance programme that began at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu on Monday concluded today. During these two days myriad local artists from across the Jammu region participated. Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Secretary Cultural Academy Zafar Iqbal Manhas said that the aim of such programmes was to promote local folk music and dance particularly that pertaining to Dogri. "Through today's segment of the two day event, we have tried our best to showcase our age old Dogri folk music and dance traditions," Manhas said. Special Secretary Culture, TR Sharma too said much the same. "I have been watching Academy's programmes for a long time now and can say it with surety that this institution is doing its best for revival of old folk traditions of the state especially those relating to Dogri," Sharma said. During today's programme many Dogri groups and individuals performed. The programme began with Dogri folk song sung by Preeti Sharma, Antima and Mandeep Kour. The other prominent participants included Slathia Brothers, Chanchal Sharma, Sham Manyali, Apurva Jamwal, and Bashir Mastana. In the final moments of the Composite programme Suhaaq, Chan dance and Bhaderwahi dance were also performed. "This shows that we are abreast of our Dogri traditions and are projecting them in a right manner," says Shamima Akhtar Additional Secretary, Central, Cultural Academy. The composite programme, which concluded with staging of Dogri folk music and dance, was witnessed by people from diverse backgrounds. The prominent among the audience were Savita Bakshi, Additional Secretary Academy, Jammu, Soba Ram, Joint Director Hospitality and Protocol and noted musician, Krishan Langoo. The programme proceedings were conducted by Ravi Kant. He also presented the vote of thanks. Tomorrow the Cultural Academy is organising a special Kashmiri music programme. Talking about tomorrow's programme Secretary Academy, Zafar Iqbal Manhas said that the Kashmiri music programme would be unique in every respect. "The programme, which will be held at Abhinav Theatre tomorrow at 6:00 pm, will be unique as it would showcase real essence of Kashmiri music," Manhas informed, adding, "it is an open programme and anybody can come and watch it".
