| Govt. keen on ensuring comprehensive welfare of disabled: Haji Nissar | | | Srinagar, October 13 – Minister for Social Welfare Haji Nissar Ali Thursday met an association of disabled students of University of Kashmir and assured them of every possible assistance from government including making mandatory upon construction agencies to engineer buildings having ample only disabled friendly facilities. He added that soon a comprehensive policy including genuine reservations in various professional colleges and employment sector will be framed to address the genuine demands of the disabled. A group of at least 2 dozen students led by Javid Ahmad Talk drawn from various academic departments of university of Kashmir having various kinds of organic impairments called on the Minister to apprise him about problems faced by the disabled persons particularly from the student community. Hajji Nissar reiterated that government has, taken may steps for securing the welfare of the disabled community including incorporation of the enhancement of pre matric scholarships proposal in the 11th five year plan. He said that efforts would be made for provisions of reservations for disabled in various professional intuitions and in employment sector. He added that government will come up with a comprehensive policy for all-round development of disabled, the draft of which has already been made public to incorporate suggestions, alterations and recommendations from various sections of society. Later the Minister while chairing another meeting stressed upon officers of Social Welfare department to provide the pensions to the backlog beneficiaries, with an immediate effect. Secretary Social Welfare Dr. Asgar Samoon, Director Social Welfare department Mrs. Dilshada Khan and other officers were also present in the meeting. |
