| Govt to impose 'Jazia' type tax on pilgrims: BJP | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 31: Rajesh Gupta, president BJP's trade, industry and tourism wing has strongly criticized the state government decision to charge Rs 2000 as entry fee from busses which transport pilgrims and visitors to J&K state. Gupta in a statement has said that this action of the government remind the black law "Jazia' imposed on Hindu pilgrims during muslim rule in India. He said this move of the J&K government is also same, and as such every pilgrims who will visit holy shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi and Swami Amarnath to pay tax (Jazia). He said this type of new tax on pilgrims and visitors entering J&K state is going to have some serious effects on tourism industry also, which he said had already suffered a lot. This step, he said, proves that the government is in link with some disgruntled elements who are bent upon to ruin the tourism industry of the state. He said by announcing such tax on tourists coaches and proposing hike in electric tariffs to cover the transmission losses, state government clearly conveyed its biased intentions and its will to divide Jammu and Kashmir over regional and religious lines and added almost almost 99 per cent pilgrims / tourists visiting the J&K state belong to Hindu religion and imposing Rs. 2000 per day tax / JAZIA on these pilgrims is trying to create a religious division. We warn the state government to withdraw this tax on tourist coaches and also the proposed hike in electric tarrifs to avoid any conflict at regional, religious, state and national levels. |
