| Mufti to leave for UN on Oct 29 | | Rahul Gandhi part of delegation | | Srinagar, October 13:Former Chief Minister and People's Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed will leave for New York on October 29 to head a 19 member, non official Indian delegation which will attend United Nation' ongoing 61 st annual session. The delegation which will spent 12 days in United States and attend number of sessions include Congress MP and Nehru-Gandhi scion Rahul Gandhi. The delegation is expected to play a major role in putting across the Indian perspective on Kashmir with representatives of various countries. Other issues related to relations with Pakistan including trade ties and overall situation in South Asia will also figure in these high level discussions. The other members of the delegation are, Mabel Rebello, Balasaheb Vikkhe Patil, Manoranjan Bhakta, Iqbal Ahmed Saradgi, K P K Kumaran, A K S Vijayan ; Raghunath Jha, C K Chandrappa, R S Prasad, Anil Basu, Milind Murli Deora, Shutrugan Sinha, Ramesh Bais, Amir Alam Khan, A Vijayaraghav and Lakshman Singh. Sources said that Mr Sayeed will share his party's view with various diplomats particularly the concept of "self rule" as the solution to Kashmir problem. He will also thrust upon demilitarization as a prelude to any serious framework for resolving Kashmir issue. Since Mufti's slogans of "self-rule" and "demilitarisation" have takers both in Pakistan as well as in the West, it is likely to open up a debate at government as well as academic level in the US . After the official engagements, Sayeed is likely to stay in US for about a month and spent some time with his son and daughter who are both settled in US. He is also scheduled to interact with members of think tanks and policy makers in the government besides South Asian experts at various American Universities. Mufti will be second Kashmir leader after Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah to attend the UN General Assembly session but will be first Kashmiri to head such a delegation.
