With the killing of six militants today, the troops have killed 12 top militants in Rajouri in three encounters in the past six days. Giving details, defence sources said acting on a tip-off that the six escaped militants were hiding in Tali Draman-Sarsoti forests, troops of 54 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and 8 Mahar, besides police, quickly swung into action and a laid a cordon around the area, plugging all exit points. Sources said while the troops were combing the woods inch by inch, the militants opened fire, which was returned. In the ensuing exchange of fire that lasted over four hours, the troops shot dead all the six militants, the sources added, saying there was no casualty on the part of troops. The slain militants were identified as Furkan, Badatalla, Chotatalla, Shaqir, Mabiya and Osama. Sources said the real name of one of them was Mohammad Aslam alias Qasim, son of Ghulam Mohammad of Thanol, Reasi. He was suspected to be the man, who had guided infiltrators from Pallanwala to Kalakote. All the others were Pakistanis. A huge quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered from them. With their killing, all the eight militants, who had infiltrated from Saryali Nullah in Jogwan, Pallanwala, last week, were eliminated. They were first sighted by eight Jogwan residents, including five women, while they were going to their border fields to collect fodder for animals. Two of the women were taken hostage by them, but both were released later unharmed. Sources said the success of these operations was due to complete synergy, coordination and a high degree of professionalism displayed by army, police and other para-military forces. The elimination of 31 terrorists by White Knight Corps in 2010 had resulted in a severe blow to the top militant leadership in the region, the sources added. Sources said the killings had rendered the cadres without leadership and support amongst their lower rank and file. Army would continue to maintain the aggressive operational attitude in the coming months to ensure that the exisiting peaceful environment continued in Jammu region for the people to lead a normal life, the sources
