58 militants among 94 killed this year

Jammu, April 1: The first three months of 2010 have claimed 94 lives. The deceased include 58 militants, 18 civilians and 18 security men. Around one hundred security men sustained injuries and while as the number of wounded civilians has been pegged at 250.
According to informed sources, militancy related violence registered alarming increase across the state. The year started with a violent clash between civilians and the security men at Sopore in Baramulla district. Twenty persons including a few security men sustained injuries in such clashes.
On January 2, gunmen whose identity could not be ascertained fired at a BSF party at Soura, Srinagar. The attack left two BSG men injured. The injured were discharged after first aid. Same day, sources said, a person who had been subjected to bonded labour allegedly by the police died. At Kandi Baramulla .The police while denying the allegations said the death was caused by an accident. The deceased was identified as Abdul Rashid Wani.
The fidayeen struck in Lal Chowk on January 6. The militants took refuge in Punjab Hotel which was cordoned off immediately. An encounter ensued that left two militants, a police man and a civilian dead. Two journalists and six others sustained injuries in the encounter.
An encounter at Pampore on January 8 left 22 persons injured. A student Inayat of Dalgate Srinagar was shot dead by police on January 9. The killing evoked severe reaction from the people. Violent clashes crippled life in the summer capital for five days.
Same day (January 8) unidentified gunmen shot dead Ghulam Muhammad of Bichroo, Kulgam. The cause of killing is being ascertained.
Earlier a former militant was shot dead at Sopore. Police are investigating. The deceased was identified as Shabir Ahmad.
Two militants owing allegiance to Hizbul Mujahideen got killed in an encounter at Thanola, Reason. The encounter left a soldier wounded. One of the slain militants believed to be a divisional commander of Hizbul Mujahideen was identified as Irfan of Thanola.
On January 12, a militant identified as Riyaz Ahmad got killed in a battle with the troops at Pulwama. In another accident a former militant was killed in a bomb explosion at Kalaroos, Kupwara. Police identified the deceased as Latif Ahmad Malik.
At Kulgam, Tangmarg a divisional commander of Hizbul Mujahideen died in an encounter with the troops on January 14. The slain militant was identified as Muhammad Shareef Chapoo.
On January 15, militants attacked police station Sopore. A police man Nazir Ahmad Bhat and a civilian Parvez Ahmad got killed. Seven persons including 4 police men and a political worker sustained injuries in the attack.
Violent clashes broke out at Pattan following death of a civilian by CRPF bullet on January 17. The deceased was later identified as Manzoor Ahmad. Same day a Pakistani intruder was killed in Poonch sector.
A militant from Pakistan administered Kashmir owing allegiance to Jaish was killed in a fight with the troops at Poonch on January 18.
On January 19, a deafening explosion at Tral left five police men including SHO and SDPO Tral wounded.
A civilian, Mushtaq Ahmad died in an exchange of fire between the militants and troops at Kalampora, Pulwama on January 24.
A fierce encounter left two army men dead at Kishtwar on January 29.
A student of 11th class, Wamiq Farooq of Rainawari was killed when police fired a tear smoke shell at him near Bohri Kadal. The incident evoked massive protests in Srinagar and elsewhere. For five days life in the Valley remained affected. Violent clashes left around 150 persons including scores of police and CRPF men wounded.
A gun battle at Kishtwar left three militants and a soldier dead on February 4. Two of the slain militants were identified as Feroz Ahmad and Nazir Ahmad. The slain soldier was identified as Ravi Kanth.
On February 5 a Pakistani intruder was killed in Samba sector. Same day in the summer capital, a BSF party allegedly shot dead a student of 11th standard, Zahid Farooq at Brain, Nishat. The incident threw life out of gear in Srinagar. Scores of persons sustained injuries in violent clashes across Kashmir.
In yet another incident on February 5, militants attacked security men at Sopore and killed a constable Irshad Ahmad of IRB 7 BN. A civilian Ghulam Husain Dar of Dangerpora also died in the shoot out.
Militants shot dead a CIK constable, Muhammad Yusuf at Sopore on February 9 at Sopore. A case was registered.
Two militants died in an encounter with the troops at Doda on February 11. On February 12 two militants got killed at Rajouri Kandi. Rajouri Kandi on
A militant owing allegiance to Lashker-e-Toiba got killed at Kalakote, Rajouri on February 15. Same day another militant was killed at Kulgam. He was identified as Ashraf Moulvi.
Two militants were killed at Chandoosa Baramulla on February 18.
In a fierce encounter at Chinkipora Sopore on February 23, four soldiers including a Captain died. The encounter also left two militants. Sixteen houses were damaged during the encounter.
On February 25 unidentified gunmen shot dead an employee of food and supplies at Awantipora. The deceased was identified as Nisar Lone.
On March 3, a Captain and two militants died in a gun battle at Dadsara, Tral. A JCO and four soldiers sustained injuries. In another incident same day militants fired at a solider at Largam, Tral.
Hizbul Mujahideen divisional commander died in an encounter at Doda on March 8. Same day militants shot dead a police informer at Bemina.
On March 12, militants shot dead an SPO, Arif Mushtaq at Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar.
On March 15 militants hurled a grenade on a CRPF vehicle at Maharaj Gunj killing a constable on the spot. Five others including civilian sustained injuries. Same evening another similar attack left 2 security men and three civilians injured at Sopore.
After a long time militants appeared with Ak-47 rifles in Lal Chowk and attacked a CRPF party near Koker Bazar on March 16. In the shoot out a civilian Khurshid Ahmad lost his life.
Two persons including a police man died in a grenade attack at Bus stand Sopore on March 16. Five persons including two women sustained injuries in the attack.
Army killed eight intruders in Kupwara sector on March 24.
Four security men sustained injuries in a grenade attack at Sopore on March 27. Same day two militants got killed at Rajouri Kalakote.
On March 28 a civilian was killed by unidentified gunmen at Shopian.
