Rs 2000 entry tax per bus, a conspiracy against Jammu, pilgrims: BJP
4/2/2010 11:18:16 PM

Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 2: BJP State Spokesperson Ramesh Arora strongly criticized imposition of heavy entry tax in J&K on buses coming from outside and called it as unwise, irrational and irresponsible attitude of the government towards tourists and the pilgrims. Charging Rs. 2000 at entry point of J&K at Lakhanpur is a deliberate attempt to isolate the state of Jammu and Kashmir from rest of the country. It is not only condemnable but shameful decision, which is required to be opposed by all. BJP demands immediate withdrawal of this autocratic order. Arora further cautioned the people of state and rest of the country that present State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has decided to follow the path of his grandfather Sheikh Abdullah and this tax will curtail the Tourism Industry. Not only is this calculated step to restart permit system in hidden form with designed planes but also a conspiracy create blockade in flow of economy by tourist pilgrimage to Jammu region. Arora further said the main agenda is to curtail interaction with rest of the country in order to press their basic demand of autonomy and self-rule. Arora said that it is also responsibility of all nationalist forces, irrespective of their party affiliations, to come openly and oppose this tax as it will also affect the income and economic structure of the state. "We are dependant upon the aids from the Centre and all big and small projects are aided by the central government by one or the other way as we have not been able to mobilize our sources and resources in this front". Arora said that imposition of heavy tax will not only shatter the economy of the state but will affect the monthly budget of a common man. We are already suffering due to price-hike of all articles as central as well as state government has failed to control the same. Inflation has already crossed 18.7 per cent, highest range in our life. Growth rate has also been decreased by wrong policies of the state and centre and no one is feeling serious concern about this aspect. Adding of tax of Rs. 2000 per bus is a policy which is against the basic policy of attracting tourism in the state and also against the announcement of special packages and incentives offered from time to time. Ramesh Arora said that BJP declares "war" against this hike of Rs. 2000 which is going to ruin and destroy income to be generated from the tourists and pilgrims; it will not be tolerated at any cost. Special facilities and concessions are provided to Haj pilgrims and this hike is deliberated attempt to reduce the number of Yatris visiting Mata Vaisho Devi and Shri Amar Nath Cave. Governor has stated while addressing the joint session of assembly that 92 lakh tourists visited J&K out of which 82 lakh visited Jammu region alone. This is an attempt to discriminate Jammu on the basis of region and religion and BJP will fight it tooth and nail.
