| Omar trivializing issues of governance: PDP | | ‘Govt should disclose CM's contribution to Assembly' | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, April 2: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today shot back at the ruling National Conference alleging the government was trying to trivialize the issues of governance through its attempt to relate the party boycott in the assembly to personal security of a leader. The PDP has asked the coalition government to come out through one of its frequent and costly advertisement campaigns with the Chief Minister's contribution to the proceedings of the house as its leader. Yesterday, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had criticized the PDP legislators from the proceedings of the Houses for a "petty matter" of security vehicle to one of its Party worker and had said "it didn't hold any water". A PDP spokesman said that the personal security of political activists was of course an important issue but the party's decision to boycott the assembly for last few days was to underline the "non-serious" attitude of treasury benches towards the people's problems. He said the repeated demands of the opposition on the floor of the house had failed to evoke any response from the government which had led to mounting problems for the common man. The spokesman said the Chief Minister could serve the state better if he followed some of the advice himself that he has offered to the PDP. He suggested the government should come out through one of its frequent and costly advertisement campaigns with the Chief Minister's contribution to the proceedings of the house as its leader. "How many times has the Chief Minister replied questions or calling attention motions pertaining to the departments headed by him" the spokesman asked and said it would also be of interest for the people to know as to how much time the Chief Minister devoted himself to the proceedings of the legislature. The spokesman said the party would welcome any purposeful legislation or debate but would not like the dignity of the house to be compromised. He said a legislation on inter district recruitment or any other issue of public importance like the Sageer Committee report could be introduced and the PDP would readily attend the session. He said it is with immense regret that the PDP had to take this extreme measure of staying away from the proceedings and if the government still displayed any degree of seriousness the PDP would respond appropriately. Referring to the insinuation that the PDP had abstained to press for a security vehicle to one of its leaders the spokesman said nobody knows the facts better than the Chief Minister himself and it was regrettable that he himself should indulge in twisting these facts. He said the government has not been able to explain as to why the security of Mohiudin Mir was withdrawn within hours of the Chief Ministers visit to Pulwama during which he faced peaceful demonstrations from the PDP. As the Chief Minister he should have welcomed the demands projected by the PDP cadre about Rations and Power and Human Rights Violations as it was an accepted norm in a democratic setup. But unfortunately the Chief Minister displayed extremely intolerant attitude which does not auger well for the struggling democracy in the state. The spokesman said the party would continue to discharge its effective role both inside and outside the house and raise issues of public interest no matter how vindictively the government behaves.
