| IRCON, NR fails to compensate affected people in Banihal: NGO | | | JAMMU OCT-13- Accusing M/S IRCON International and Northern Railway of back tracking from its commitment to provide compensation for the land acquired for the railway line in Banihal sector, a Non-Governmental Organization has demanded that further blasting should be kept under suspension with immediate effect. Addressing a joint press conference here Kesar Hamid a NGO, K K Bakshi, General Secretary CITU and Madan Gopal Joint Secretary Bank Employees Federation have said that IRCON and Northern Railway had promised that adequate compensation would be paid for the acquired land and residential houses besides a job to one person of every family. But regretted that all these assurances and agreements proved a hoax adding that houses in Chareel, Chapnari and Amkoot have developed cracks due to blasting the deep tunnels They said that on the contrary the IRCON and Northern Railways supported by the local administration and police have unleashed a rein of terror to suppress the affected people demanding compensation for acquired land and the damages caused to the houses. Blasts for digging 11 Km long tunnel, the longest in Asia, is damaging the residential houses within the vicinity as well as endangering life of the inhabitant, they said and demanded that those living in the endangered areas be rehabilitated at safer places and proper compensation for the land and other property finalized at the earlier. In the meantime, the blasting work should be kept under suspension.
