| Soz, Azad rendezvous in Royal Springs Golf Course | | Fissures in Congress | | Early Times Report Jammu, April 3: Fissures in State Congress Party came to fore when former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad and the Pradesh Congress Committee chief, Saif-ud-Din Soz ignored each other in the Royal Springs Golf Course in the summer capital Saturday. Sources close to Congress said Azad’s supporters rushed to New Delhi last week and persuaded him to take interest in the affairs of State Pradesh Congress Committee. After much coaxing and cajoling, Azad agreed to visit Srinagar. Immediately after his arrival in Srinagar yesterday, Azad is believed to have had a meeting with his supporters. Azad promised his supporters of his active role in the affairs of Congress Party in the state. “I shall be watching the developments keenly”, he assured his supporters amid deafening applause from them. To give an impression that he was on a holiday in Kashmir, Azad spent around three hours in the golf course today. The Congress Chief, who according to people close to him, has never played golf also rushed to the golf course to convey a `strong ‘message’ to Azad. The former Chief Minister, however, ignored Soz’s scornful look and concentrated on the game. The two leaders did not even wish each other. It all started last week when warring factions of the party washed dirty linen in public. A group of persons believed to be supporters of Azad staged a demonstration outside the Press Enclave at Srinagar’s posh Residency road. They raised slogans against Soz and demanded his immediate removal as PCC chief. Soz retaliated next day by sending hundreds of his supporters to the media hub to express their support to him. Some of them told the media that the Congress was progressing under the `dynamic’ leadership of Soz and the previous day’s protests were held by unscrupulous elements. “They have been identified and shall be handed over to the police soon”, they said. Azad’s supporters, it is believed, are dismayed over inclusion of father of counter insurgency, Kuka Parray’s son in the Congress. According to them, his inclusion is going to have a serious bearing on the party.
