| Man faces SHO’s ‘anger’ | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Apr 3: In an alleged act of "extortion", a 42-year-old printing press owner was beaten and his wife manhandled by a police Inspector at Phinter in Billawar, Kathua, Friday night. Police, however, categorically refuted the extortion allegation, saying the printing press owner was booked as he was involved in a brawl with another man. Onkar Singh (42), who runs a printing press at Phinter, also owns a dhaba in the area. With multiple injuries and a broken arm, he was admitted to the GMC Hospital here. With tears rolling down his eyes, he told The Early Times that Billawar Police Station SHO, Inspector Ashok Sharma had allegedly been sending special police officer (SPO) Mohammad Aslam to his dhaba for the past some time to give police a share of proceeds they got from offering liquor to people. "I told the SPO that we do not allow liquor consumption inside the dhaba and police can verify it anytime, but he did not agree and beat up my uncle Jagdish Chander and his son Bodh Raj yesterday about 7.30 pm," he alleged. "When I intervened, the SHO reached there within no time and beat me up with lathies and kicks," he alleged, saying his wife was manhandled by the Inspector. The SHO then dragged him to the police post, which was about 100 mt from their dhaba and kept him there for about three hours, Onkar alleged and added that he was released at about 11.30 pm on the intervention of villagers. He alleged that to save his skin, the SHO had allegedly booked him in a case of brawn with one Janak Singh. This brawn never took place, he claimed. Onkar demanded intervention of senior police officers in the incident and action against the guilty cops.
