| First of its kind in world | | Double operation performed on Polio patient | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER

Dr. Rajive Gupta, a laparoscopic surgeon successfully performed two major operations in the same sitting on Sandhya Dhar, 26 years old daughter of M.K Dhar R/o Gangyal, by the latest technique of laparoscopic surgery at Bee Enn General Hospital, Jammu here today.
This polio affected patient was suffering from severe attacks of abdomen pain for the last more than two years because of gall bladder stone and big cyst in the left ovary. The patient consulted Dr. Rajive Gupta about her problems. She was advised to undergo laparoscopic surgery and Dr. Gupta successfully performed both the operations in the same sitting by making just 3 punctures in her abdomen. This operation took 1 hour and 10 minutes and Gall Bladder containing a big stone of 24mm size was removed and the ovarian cyst measuring 90.4mm x 44.6 mm was first aspirated and then excised in doto leaving the normal position if the ovary intact. No skin stitches and no blood transfusion was required in the operation.
Doctor was assisted operation was assisted by the laparoscopists, Ashwani Gupta anesthesia was given by Dr. Arun Arora. Normally, any other surgeon would make 4-5 holes just for removal of Gall bladder. This type of double operation in a polio patient by just 3 keyholes is first of its kind in the world claims Dr Rajive Gupta. The patient was made to sit 4 hours after operation and started liquid feeds.
According to Dr. Rajive Gupta, the patient shall be discharged after 24 hours and can perform routine activities after 48 hours.
According to Dr. Gupta, laparoscopic surgery has revolutioned the surgical treatment and in expert hands multiple operations can performed at the same time. Moreover, patient gets less pain, minimal scar and early resumption to work as compared to conventional method of open surgery. Dr. Rajive Gupta is also known for doing stitchless, clipless, 3 ports laparoscopic surgery for Gall Bladder stones and has been the pioneer surgeon of Jammu to do laparoscopic operations for hernia, kidneys and uterus as well.
