| KPs stage protest against 'meager' hike in relief | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 4: Accusing the State as well as Central Governments of "apathetic" and "callous" attitude towards the displaced Kashmiri Pandits (KPs), hundreds of KPs under the banner of Panun Kashmir organised a public rally and staged protest at Muthi camp here today. Expressing shock and surprise over the recent enhancement of Rs 250 per person per month for KPs by the state government, Agnishekhar, convener of Panun Kashmir described it as "cruel joke" with the community. "Panun Kashmir fails to understand as to how and on what grounds the centre government conceded such irrational recommendations of Omar Abdullah led coalition government regarding this meager cash hike ignoring present price index and market," the KP leader maintained. Agnishekhar urged the state and union governments to reconsider their decision and immediately approve the public demand of the enhancement from Rs 4000 to Rs 12000 per family enabling these hapless people to make two ends meet. The Speakers from all of camps and non camps noted with utter dismay over the sudden withdrawal of Income Tax Deferment causing distress to the displaced state government employees. "It's irony when thousands of crores of rupees are been demanded by the same state government for rehabilitations of thousands of terrorists from across LoC, stone-pelters, victims and Human Right violation in the Kashmir Valley, a cold shoulder is being shown to the real victims of terrorism languishing in exile. The much hyped employment package is being mutilated and made conditional and instrument of blackmail," they alleged. The speakers decried the government policy and appealed the Kashmiri Pandit community to reject this meager enhancement of Rs 250 per soul as a mark of protest. Panun Kashmir also declared an action plan to organize scores of such protest rallies in different parts of Jammu region to galivanise the public opinion against the government and the vested interest in the community. Later a protest march was led by Agnishekhar and the effigies of the state and union governments were burned by the people. Prominent speakers who addressed the rally included Ravinder Raina, Bhushan Lal Bhat, P L Badgami, B L Dhar, Surinder, Ashok Dilber and Sanjay Dattatreya Supreme Council Member Panun Kashmir.
