| KP women support BAJ over PRDB | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 4: Kashmira Vahini, the frontline Kashmiri Pandit (KP) women organization, today extended its full support to the Bar Association Jammu (BAJ) to intensify its joint effort to get Permanent Resident (disqualification) Certificate defeated before its introduction in the state Legislative Council. The Kashmira Vahini executive committee, under the chairmanship of Sudesha Koul appreciated the role of President of Bar Associatioin Jammu Advocate Sunil Sethi who has given a call for Jammu bandh on April 6 if the government does not withdraw the bill before or by April 5, the last day of the budget session. The Kashmira Vahini members termed the intent behind the introduction of the bill as "anti-women" and "anti-Jammu" in general and anti-KP women in particular. "The bill would not only disqualify the permanent resident status of those women of the state who chose to marry a non state-subject person, it has provision of even disqualifying the citizenship rights of those non-state subject women who marry boys of J&K State, in case of divorce or death of their husbands," they observed. The Kashmira Vahini members appealed all women organizations, women intellectuals, writers, lawyers, Doctors, Professors in general and displaced KP organizations in particular to express solidarity with the BAJ.Among others who attended the meeting included Dr.Kshema Koul, Neelam Koul, Sushma Rishi, Nirmila Tikoo, Dr. Phoola Koul, Vijya Saproo and Guddi Jogi. |
