| Police activates border posts to check infiltration | | |

Apart from troops, police too have alerted border posts to check infiltration and rope in locals to identify outsiders and suspicious persons in the border villages.
All the border posts of police had been put on high alert following increased infiltration bids from across the borders, a police officer said.
"We have activated our border police posts, plugging infiltration routes to eliminate them in case they infiltrate", he added. Intelligence input suggested that over 400 militants were waiting at launching pads across the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC) to cross over to India.
The officer said intelligence persons and units had also been deployed along the borders to collect advance and actionable inputs. India had electrified its 3-tiered border fencing and installed heat
sensing electronic gadgets and night vision devices (NVDs) to check infiltration, he added.
On March 23, a group of 16 militants had infiltrated via Pallanwala area of LoC in Akhnoor sector . All these militants were eliminated in "Operation Khoj" in 4 different surgical strikes in Triyath and Kandi areas of Rajouri district by Police, Army and CRPF in next 10 days.
\During 2008, gross infiltration was estimated at 342 and net infiltration 57, whereas in the year 2009, the gross infiltration went up to 485 and net infiltration to 113. |
