| SSB volunteers stage protest, highlight demands | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Kathua, Apr 5: Volunteers of Special Services Bureau (SSB) held an impressive protest under banner of International Democratic Party (IDP) to highlight their long pending demands including consideration of trained volunteers of SSB to be recruited as constables and over aged volunteers may be given pension as given to VVF besides using their services in national interest. Memorandum of the demands was forwarded to Union Home Ministry through Deputy Commissioner. Protest, deputation led by State President, I.D Khajuria, President SSB Inder Singh and joint Secy Girdhari Lal said that SSB is basically a public organisation which was formed in 1963 after Chinese aggression on India. Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru in consultation with the then Chief IB, B.N Malik and prominent legislators like Biju Patanaik, Chief minister of Orissa proposed that a public organization comprising of border residents along Northern, Eastern and western borders be raised to prepare people to face any national emergency by keeping vigil on the activities of enemy along border belt and to resist enemy’s aggression. They said that these volunteers were trained Rifle, LMG sten grenades handling and firing with special courses like group leaders, demolition, weapon specialist, Intelligence , Guerrilla warfare training. “If the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has implemented the healing touch policy to provide relief to the surrender militants then why not to these trained volunteers of SSB” they asked.
