| J&K to host All India Open International Rating Chess Tournament | | | Early Times Reporter

J&K will host All India Open International Chess Championship from October 26-30 at Prem Bhavan Residency Road. Atul Sharma President All J&K Chess Association which is organizing the mega championship while briefing the media persons said, “It is perhaps for the first time in the history of J&K that a national chess championship in which more than 150 national rated chess players from all corners of the country including International Grandmasters like D.P. Singh (national ranking no.4) would participate in the forthcoming championship.” He further said that “there is a special concession in fee for J&K team comprised of 25 players (boys and girls) who will take part in the chess championship.” He (Atul) also hoped that conduct of such a prestigious chess championship will prove a corner stone for promoting sports in the state. Life Insurance Corporation is the main sponsor of the sporting extravaganza. Total prize money for the championship is Rs. 12, 0000. Earlier, Baldev Raj General Secretary All J&K Chess Association gave the welcome address. Apart from Atul and Baldev Raj, Pawan Gupta Vice President and Parvinder Kumar Joint Secretary of the association were also present on the occasion. The association will also conduct a free Vaishno Devi trip for all participating players after the completion of the championship.
