| Fractured state-of-culture rules Art Academy | | | SIDDHARTH EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 6: Another assurance given by the State Academy to the aspiring theatrists of Jammu about the making of an 'Open Air Theatre' in the Academy premises is all set to eat dust with no apparent move being initiated in this regard so far. " Come what may, I would see to it that Jammu may get an amphitheatre by the end of this financial year," were the quoted words of State Academy Secretary Zafar Iqbal Manhas who had made such rhetoric on more than couple of occasions while addressing the media queries over the issue. However, as per the sources, not a single paper has been moved in the central office of the Academy in this regard and sub office when contacted showed complete ignorance of any such official announcement made by the Secretary. Added to the agony over the working of the state Academy, there is open secret now making buzz in the town that sub office and central office has lost liaison, courtesy being the mismanagement of the affairs on the both sides with one presenting a different picture from the other. "Since certain new recruitments in the department under various sections, there has arisen an element of discord among the employees who are finding it below their poise to contact the other of a rank and file in the same or the different office thus leading to the total chaos of the system," informed a source, and an employee of the State Academy. He said that system is almost on the verge of collapse with interconnectivity among the employees for a smooth functioning of the institution like State Culture Academy is missing leading for the artists to suffer. "In such circumstances, assurance for an open air theatre or any other proposal of the Academy should be understood as a farce which now has become a culture with the Academy," he said. He also pointed towards certain mismanagement in the various sections of the Academy run by incompetent employees or the new recruits who are "alien" to the department as well as the languages even. Given this state-of -art of the system in vogue in Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, artists may not feel at ease to be a part of the institution to expedite their latent talents knowing to get nothing in return, not even a deserved appreciation or a recognition. "Hoping to get some recognition on the national panorama while expanding our artistic demeanor through the State Academy now seems a attempt in futility," laments Raj Mohan, a new entrant in state theatricals who enacted a small but significant role in the recently concluded Annual Drama Festival.
