JAMMU, Apr 8: Department of Psychology shall be playing against The Business School for the women's badminton title in the inter-department sports meet of University of Jammu underway at Gymnasium hall, here tomorrow.
Earlier, in the semi-finals, played today, Psychology defeated Department of Bio Technology 2-1. The Results: Ritu Singh bt Indu Priya 21-07; Shilpa Gupta lost to Shelley 16-21. Doubles: Ritu and Roshi beat the pair of Indu and Shelley 21-09.
In the second semi-final, The Business School registered a 2-1 win over Centre for Hospitality and Tourism Management (CHTM). The Results: Neha Jamwal lost to Pallavi Gupta 16-21; Venika Saini bt Stanzin 21-07. Doubles: The pair of Neha and Venika beat the duo of Pallavi and Stanzin 21-07.
BADMINTON MEN: Semi-finals line-up has been drawn in men's badminton event with the entry of Department of Sociology, Law School, Department of Political Sciences and Department of Law in the last four stages today.
Earlier, in the quarterfinals, Sociology beat Department of Statistics 2-0. The Results: Mohsin Raina bt Hardeep Kumar 21-04; Karanjit Singh bt Rajesh Kumar 21-10. In another quarterfinal, Law School defeated Department of Physical Education 2-1. The Results: Abhik bt Rakesh 21-09; Nikhil lost to Ashwani Kotwal 16-21. Doubles: Abhik and Nikhil bt the pair of Ashwani and Anoop 21-18.
In the third quarterfinal, Department of Law registered a 2-1 win over The Business School 2-1. The Results: Lovejeet Singh lost to Rohan 16-21; Varuneshwar Singh bt Vikram 21-18. Doubles: Lovejeet and Varuneshwar beat Rohan and Vikram 21-17.
In another quarterfinal, scheduled for today, Department of Political Sciences got walkover Department of Mathematics.
CHESS MEN: In the ongoing chess tournament, part of the sports meet, Department of Physical Education, MCA and Department of Urdu won their respective matches to move into the next round. The Detailed Results: Physical Education bt The Business School 2-0 (Sanjeev Jamwal bt Neeraj Sharma and Harsimran Singh bt Neeraj Kumar). MCA bt Department of Economics 2-1 (Pankaj bt Monider Kumar, Manish lost to Amarjit Singh. Reverse game: Pankaj bt Amarjit Singh). Department of Urdu got walkover Department of Geography.
Earlier, to encourage the participants from different departments, Director Sports and Physical Education, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau visited the gymnasium hall wherein interacted the players taking part in badminton and chess competitions.
Today's matches were officiated by Ravish Vaid, Vikrant Singh, Meenakshi Sharma and Rakesh Sharma.
