| 'Resurgence-2010' kicks off at SMVDU | | |
EARLY TIMES REPORT KATRA, Apr 8: Resurgence, an annual Youth and Sports Festival of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) which aims at empowering youth to take an active role in transforming awareness into action today got underway at university campus. Amidst a mood of euphoria and exhilaration the three- day gala event was inaugurated by the vice chancellor R.N.K Bamezai, who was chief guest on the occasion. In his inaugural address, Prof. Bamezai greeted everyone on the occasion of Resurgence which symbolizes celebration of life and spirit of rejuvenation at SMVDU. Bamezai, a renowned researcher highlighted the significance of such events which work not only as an opportunity to hone and exhibit the cultural, literary and sports skills of students but are also great stress busters. Underlining this fact, Bamezai urged the youth to work for peace, progress and prosperity which can be learnt from participation in such Festivals. Welcoming the chief guest, Dr. Suparn Sharma, Associate Dean of Students highlighted the quantum of growth which SMVDU has achieved by tracing the history of Youth Fest in SMVDU ever since its inception. He thanked the coordinators Anil Tiwari and Sumantha Sarthi for their tireless efforts in organizing this event. The three-day Youth festival from April 8- 10, 2010 at SMVDU is an amalgam of literary, cultural and sports activities. It began with a Rangoli competition on the theme Emotions, followed by a series of events to be held simultaneously viz Street Theatre, Solo and Folk dances, Mime, Still Life Sketching, Fashion Shows, Ballad, and Street dance Mono Acting. Blending the literary and cultural with sports, students are participating in sports events like long jump, high jump, cricket for girls, Kho-Kho etc. The Inter- University events are going to held on April 10, 2010 would be having participation from different colleges and universities of J&K.
