| Refugees demand setting up of development board | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 8: Part of Jammu Kashmir (POJK) Refugees Sangarsh Morcha, an organization spearheading the agitation for displaced people of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK), today demanded setting up of a development board for refugees to help the internally displaced population. "The State Government has drafted a policy to offer amnesty for the terrorist in PoK but the refugees, who have been fighting for their basic rights, are being ignored by the State and Central governments. PoK refugees now find gun wielding only an easy mean to get their rights secured," Narinder Singh, convenor of the Morcha told reporters here. The refugee leader asserted that if a militant is welcomed back from across with a general amnesty and other benefits, the nationalists seeking their rights are left no other alternative but to pick gun in this State to raise their concern. He also blamed the government for following "biased" approach towards refugees and other displaced persons. "All policies and strategies are channeled through an appeasement plan for anti-nationalist forces which has left the state's political and social management at the mercy of powers inimical to return of normalcy in the state," the Morcha chief said, adding that the cause of discontent can be resolved only if the government takes the nationalists into confidence which in turn will strengthen the state internally. "Successive governments have always seen the solution to the Kashmir imbroglio through appeasement of separatists and anti-national elements. They have never taken into confidence the nationalist people and tried to settle down their issues," Singh said. The leader also condemned the cane charge on refugees at Shalamar couple of days back and criticized the government for ignoring the long pending demands of PoK refugees. "Instead of providing justice to POK refugees the government ordered lathicharge on these peaceful demonstrators. Even in the hospital some of the refugees getting First Aid were arrested by the police while 10 refugees were booked under serious cases which were totally manipulated and directed by the State government," he alleged. He demanded that all the arrested refugees' leaders be released unconditionally and warned that if they are not released immediately, it would have serious ramifications. The leader also extended full support to the Jammu bandh called by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) against the government's purported move to pass Inter-District Recruitment Bill. He also appealed all the refugees' to come on roads against "anti-refuge" attitude being adopted by the State government. Ravinder Raina, member of Morcha said that the Morcha was planning to file a case against the administration in human right commission soon vis-à-vis 'torture' of refugees detained by the police.
