| Villagers lock AEE's office | | | early times report
AKHNOOR, Apr 9 : A large number of irate villagers including women drawn from village Sangani, Barui, Parsoti, Gargal, Dev Nagar and Barola held a protest Dharna in the complex of Public Health Engineering department and locked the office of AEE (Mechanical) due to non-availability of drinking water.
Villagers alleged that the break down which took place in the Sangani Tube Well from where the water is supplied to all the villages has not been rectified by the Mechanical division for the last 20 days nor they have made any alternative arrangement for the supply of water through water tankers.
They further alleged that there are some internal differences between Mechanical and water supply wings of the PHE department because of which the villagers are deliberately made to suffer.
Immediately on receipt of the information SDPO Akhnoor Mushtaq Ahmed Choudhary alongwith SHO Gian Chand Sharma reached the spot opened the locks of office after pacifying the villagers and assuring them that the department will restore water supply soon. On the assurance of SDPO the villagers lifted Dharna and said that if the water supply is not restored within two days, they will resume protest, lock the offices and block National Highway.
Prominent among those present in the protest were Panch Khem Raj , Ashok Kumar, Girdhari Lal, Mulakh Raj, Som Nath, Govind Ram, Brita Ram, Taro Devi, Gharo Devi and Raj Kumari.
