JAMMU, Apr 9: Coming down heavily on the government for issuing baseless allegations, Government Employees Joint Action Committee (GEJAC) stated that the government was misleading the innocent people of the state.
In a handout issued by the GEJAC here today, it was stated that the government was resorting to such tactics only to malign the ongoing peaceful agitation of the employees demanding implementation of the agreement already agreed upon by the government. The government instead of conceding the demands had invoked Essential Services Maintenance Ordinance (ESMO) dictatorially to crush the democratic movement. In the advertisements, the government did not mention the figures and account of the central grants of the funds and its utilisation under various heads.
It was also informed that the government through media was boosting that the demands of the employees have already been met and only payment of arrears of the 6th pay commission is remaining because of paucity of funds.
They termed it as white lie and nothing else. They further said if that was the financial position of the government, why the salaries and perks of the legislators had been increased by more than 60 percent, and arrears of the 6thpay commission was also been paid to the IAS cadre from the state funds.
The employees have been threatened by the government quoting the reference of the Tamil Nadu movement, and judgment of the Supreme Court. The GEJAC termed it as misleading, as it said that the right to expression was fundamental right and no one can snatch it.
The employees demanded that ESMA should be invoked unconditionally before initiation of any negotiations with the employee's representatives, and appealed to the Police Bureaucrats not to arrest the protesting employees as they are not criminals and neither their cause is faulty. GEJAC also demanded to release the arrested employees and their leaders.
Signatories to the statement included G.L.Chanda, Sardar Popinder Singh, Satish Kumar, Satnam Singh, Susheel, and Chaman Lal Sangotra.
