| President Patil honours armed forces personnel | | | Agencies
New Delhi, Apr 9: President Pratibha Patil on Friday conferred two Kirti Chakras and twenty five Shaurya Chakras to armed forces personnel for their exemplary courage.
The President also conferred fifteen Param Vishisht Seva Medals, two Uttam Yudh Seva Medals, one Bar to Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and twenty six Ati Vishisht Seva Medals to senior officers of the armed forces for distinguished service of an exceptional order. Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Defence Minister A K Antony, Marshal of the Air Force Arjun Singh, three Service Chiefs and several other senior civil and military officials were present on the occasion.
Major Amit Oscar Fernandes of the 7 Maratha Light Infantry and Major Suresh Suri of the Kumaon Regiment, whose wife received it Posthumously, were presented the Kirti Chakra for their bravery during counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
